Mackinnon is a renewable fuels and clean energy consultant. He advises clients on the impact of regulatory and policy developments with a particular focus on aviation biofuels and sustainability.
In addition to his work as a consultant, Mackinnon is Of Counsel with Cleantech Law Partners, a boutique renewable energy law firm catering to the unique legal needs of renewable energy stakeholders, and serves as an industry analyst contributing to Pike Research’s coverage of clean transportation and smart energy markets.
He has written extensively on renewable energy issues for leading industry publications and published industry reports focusing on biofuels and geothermal markets. With a background in international affairs and law, Mackinnon has held positions as a fellow implementing sustainable development programs with the South African Government, policy advisor & director of business development for a cleantech startup company, and editor of Biomass Hub, an online resource providing global biomass supply chain news and analysis.
Mackinnon holds a J.D. from Washington College of Law at American University, an M.A. in Global Environmental Policy from American University’s School of International Service, and a B.A. in History from Amherst College. He is a member of the California Bar.
